Chief Master Sergeant ARTHUR ROSS JR.

Chief Master Sergeant Arthur Ross Jr. is the Command Chief, 688th Cyberspace Wing, Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland, Texas. In this role, he leads more than 3,700 military, civilian and contract personnel responsible for building, operating, securing, extending, and defending communications networks through the execution of four cyberspace weapon systems, to include engineering and expeditionary capabilities. His team deploys and delivers survivable and resilient cyber infrastructure, deployed and in garrison, and integrates communications and computer systems designed to increase combat effectiveness. Chief Ross also serves as the principal advisor to the commander on all military readiness, training, morale, quality of life, professional development, and effective utilization of resources.

Chief Ross enlisted in the United States Air Force in December of 2000 and graduated from Security Forces training in March of 2001. He spent 4 years defending the base population and our nation’s nuclear weapons arsenal at F.E. Warren Air Force Base Wyoming, as a Security Forces member. He then cross-trained into the Cyber Systems Operations career field. Chief Ross has served in various roles to include Global Hawk operations, communications planning, Air Force Information Network Mission Assurance coordination, operations training, Standardization and Evaluation, Air and Space Operations communications support, 9 AF (AFCENT) A6 Staff duties. Also, he provided command and control for the 20th Fighter Wing to project and sustain combat ready aircraft and has been responsible for 170 military, civilians and contractors providing global air-to-ground C3 to the POTUS, VPOTUS, cabinet members, and senior military leaders for the 89th Communications Squadron. Chief Ross has been accountable for manpower and resources to facilitate cyberspace operations, security and logistics support for the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS), 16 Air Force and combatant command missions. Lastly, he advised for the largest training organization and advanced policy and guidance, to build, operate, secure, defend, and extend the global network, while driving strategic level career field evolution for over 1300 Airmen. Prior to his current position, Chief Ross was the SEL of the AETC Operations and Communications Directorate and 1D7 MAJCOM Functional Manger, Joint Base San Antonio - Randolph AFB, TX.

Chief Ross was also an Additional Duty First Sergeant, 690th Cyberspace Operations Group Staff and the 690th Intelligence Support Squadron for 18 months while assigned to Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland, TX. He has deployed four times in support of Operation Joint Guardian, Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, Iraqi Freedom, Inherent Resolve, and deployed to RAAF base Edinburgh in support high-altitude, long endurance air vehicle programs that help develop the Australian Ground Element (AGE). Chief Ross also completed an oversees short tour in South Korea.
