85EIS enables air power at Tyndall Air Force Base
The 85th Engineering Installation Squadron was requested by Tyndall AFB’s 325th Training Support Squadron, Tyndall Enterprise Live Mission Operation Center, to perform a preventative maintenance inspection on one of their remote antenna sites.
The team was comprised of four members from the Cable and Antenna Systems work center, Tech Sgt. Stephen Bythway, Staff Sgt. Colton Gallegos, Senior Airmen Darren Perry and Airman 1st Class Zachary Risner. The inspections took approximately two weeks to complete and consisted of climbing a 500 foot tower, performing line tests, and performing corrosion control and prevention measures for 14 TELMOC antennas. The remote antenna site tracks U.S. and allied aircraft during flying operations near the Tyndall Range Complex.
It also provides pre-flight and post-flight debrief data to include positioning, communication and the execution of mission objectives. The airspace, in which the training squadron operates, encompasses 14 thousand square miles around Tyndall AFB.
