Women's Equality Day is Aug. 26 and this year’s theme is “Celebrating Women's Right to Vote.”

Women's Equality Day commemorates the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.

Over the years, the observance has grown to include focusing attention on women's continued efforts toward gaining full equality. Women's Equality Day was officially established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1971.

Joint Base San Antonio celebrates the occasion with a Women's Equality Day luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at the JBSA-Lackland Gateway Club’s Alamo Room, located at 1650 Kenly Ave., building 2490, which will include a distinguished panel for a question-and-answer session.

Additionally, Women’s Equality Day posters will be displayed at all Joint Base San Antonio libraries.

The buffet-style luncheon is $15 pre-paid; participants are asked to RSVP by Aug. 24. For more information, call 210-221-1408 or email usaf.jbsa.502-abw.mbx.jbsa-fsh-cps@mail.mil.

Visitors are encouraged to follow COVID-19 health and safety measures, including practicing physical distancing.
