Organization
The 688 CW is comprised of over 3,200 active duty Airmen, civilians and contractors, operating 4 weapon systems and warfighting communications capabilities, across 27 units worldwide.

Capabilities
The 688th Cyberspace Wing (688 CW), headquartered at JBSA-Lackland, Texas, is the nation’s first cyberspace wing conducting persistent global network and defensive cyberspace operations while maintaining ready combat communications, and engineering and installation forces that can deploy on a moment’s notice in support of Air Force, Joint Force Commander, and Combatant Commander requirements. 

Lineage.   Designated as Air Force Special Communications Center on 24 Jul 1953.  Organized on 8 Aug 1953.  Redesignated as:  Air Force Electronic Warfare Center on 1 Jul 1975; Air Force Information Warfare Center on 10 Sep 1993; Air Force Information Operations Center on 1 Oct 2006; 688 Information Operations Wing on 18 Aug 2009; 688 Cyberspace Wing on 13 Sep 2013.
