363d ISR Group pays tribute to 1Lt Paul Schmidt; Pilot Accounted for from WWII
U.S. Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Paul Schmidt, pilot assigned to 161st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Group, 8th Air Force, stands in front of his P-51 Mustang, the “Rocinante” – named after Don Quixote’s horse. On March 23, Schmidt was attacking an enemy train near Sendenhorst, Germany, in his F-6D, a reconnaissance version of the P-51 Mustang fighter, when he went missing in action at the age of 20. 363d ISR Wing Airmen honored with Distinguished Flying Cross for ’21 Afghanistan withdrawal efforts
U-28A Draco aircrew members pose for a photo after receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross at a ceremony held at Hurlburt Field, Florida, Nov. 17, 2023. The crews earned the honor for their efforts in support of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021. The Distinguished Flying Cross medal is awarded to any officer or enlisted person of the armed forces of the United States for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight.
