My perspective, when I look at what's going on in the world, it caused me to think and to think about growing up and where I came from. And I felt like I needed to share that perspective with others and to kind of give folks an understanding of the world through my lens, if you will. For me, I'm a colonel in United States Air Force, the world's greatest Air Force. I've been serving for 24 years and counting. It's been an amazing ride.

This video is part of a series featuring Airmen, their stories, and reflections on the journey that brought them to where they are today. In this installment, Col Mack “Shac” Curry, Deputy Director for Targeting, Joint Staff Directorate for Intelligence (and former Commander, 363d Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group) reflects on his experience growing up and serving as an African American, his family’s legacy of service, and raising children during times of significant racial tensions. Col Curry’s message offers hope and suggestions for how we can change our service culture and eliminate the negative effects of racism.
