JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
It began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
At Joint Base San Antonio, a variety of events are planned. To mitigate the risk of COVID-19 exposure, participants and volunteers will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines at all events.
ALL LOCATIONS
Donations for JBSA Police Week will be collected for delivery to on-duty officers throughout the week. Police Week signs will be located after the gates at each base and officer appreciation bags will be delivered throughout the week. Donation bins will be placed at all JBSA commissaries and Security Forces buildings. Donations will be collected through May 15 to create officer appreciation bags. Items being accepted include granola bars, trail mixes, water, jerky, energy drinks, chips, drink powder packs, cookie packs, energy bars, gum, candy (no chocolate), packages of nuts/crackers, fruit snacks, etc.
May 11-14: “Carry the Fallen” event begins at 12:01 a.m. May 10 at 2438 Stanley Road at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston and ends at 5:30 p.m. May 14 in a ceremony at the Air Force Security Forces Center at JBSA-Lackland.
Volunteers can sign up at https://signup.com/go/tWZMNUF. Volunteers can sign up for one-hour increments to walk, run, ruck or any other form of perpetual movement that continues to carry on the duty and dedication to the policing forces. Participation is capped at a maximum of 10 personnel per hour to meet with COVID-19 Guidelines.

May 15: Remembrance Day, where an all-points bulletin will be put across the net for fallen defenders throughout the day.
JBSA-RANDOLPH
May 9: Official start of Police Week at building 100. The Taj is illuminated blue in observance of the many officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while ensuring the safety and protection of others.
JBSA-LACKLAND
May 13: JBSA-Chapman Training Annex Ruck. Showtime for the event is 7 a.m. for sign-in and directions. Step-off begins at 8 a.m. from the Combat Arms Building, building 950. Past and present defenders, along with family members are also encouraged to join us but rucks are not provided. Attending without a ruck is still allowed and teams are welcome. May 14: Retreat ceremony at Air Force Security Forces Center flagpole, building 954, 1517 Billy Mitchel Blvd. Showtime is 4:30 p.m. for participating personnel, who may park to the right of the building.
